Proper Colon Care – how to be good to your colon

colon care
detoxyourbody.jpgLearning proper colon care is important for healthy living.  The colon’s job completes a 15ft long tube that processes all the food that you eat.  With a healthy person, food is eaten, digested and then removed via the large intestine (colon) out of the body.  The time that the food is inside is called ‘transit time.’  In a normal, healthy body, transit time averages around 30 hours.  However, in many other people the transit time is easily 48 hours or more.  The longer the transit time, the harder it is to remove the material from the body.  If the material stays too long in the colon, it becomes impacted and narrows the passages with old material.  This area builds up and becomes full of toxins, bacteria and carcinogens.  That’s why it’s so important to take care of your colon.

The required care for a healthy colon is simple, drink lots of water, and eat lots of fiber and make sure you exercise in some form every day.

Of these three things, including fiber is at the top of the list.   It’s easy to get enough fiber by including whole grains, vegetables, fruits, beans nuts and seeds in your diet regularly.  Fiber is the part of the plant that the body’s digestive system can’t break down and is therefore moved out of the body.  On its way, it absorbs water making it swell up larger, which makes it easy for the muscles of the colon wall to grab.  This is turn makes the stool softer and easier to move.

The more processed food you eat, the less fiber is in your diet.

It’s almost as important to drink lots of water.  As a general rule, every person should drink 6-8 glasses of pure water every day.  Along with water and fiber, exercise is essential for a healthy colon.  Make a point of going for a walk every day.  Smile - enjoy the fresh air and the knowledge that you’re doing your part to stay fit and healthy.
